I got the goods from Maud Newton the other day–this very curious site called Mr. Beller’s Neighborhood. It uses Google maps to organize stories geographically in Manhattan and the boroughs. I immediately checked my neighborhood and came up with Co-Op City Blues by Victor A. Jouvet, which is mapped to Brooklyn Academy of Music. I really liked the Nolita story by Daniel Nester, The Puerto Rican Lockhorns Reunion. And also the hilarious and sad The Meathead on the No. 1 Train by Lily Shen (what subway-riding New Yorker hasn’t been on a train with an aggro douchebag?). I wish the map and the search drop downs worked better but it seems like it just needs some tweaking.
P.S. Just noticed that it really has been all about neighbors over here. I guess it’s such an urban fascination: who are all these people surrounding me? What do the people I live among and where we choose to live say about me?

Love your blog. Wow. Mr. Beller’s Neighborhood is awesome. I wish it expanded across the whole United States so everyone could see what books have been set in their neighborhood. On the neighbors theme, it would also be cool to know, which authors live in the neighborhood, eh?
