He Was Island

Capri — it isn’t really my kind of place either. Stunning limestone cliffs, sparkling blue Mediterranean, pine-covered hills. What’s to love? The NYT Travel article from Sunday that (loosley) ties Graham Greene to the island where he kept a house and wrote many of his novels is an interesting foray into literary perspective, especially since he never wrote about Capri. Still, it’s a romantic idea to think of the somewhat severe novelist sipping grappa and pounding out his stories. I love that they included this quote:
“One has no talent,” Greene perversely insisted, “I have no talent. It’s just a question of working, of being willing to put in the time”
So modest. So grand.
